Karen Mirzoyan

I was born on November 16, 1981, in Tbilisi, Georgia.

I moved to Armenia in 1992.
I graduated from the Yerevan State Linguistic University after Valerie Bryusov (German and English languages).
I participated in the photojournalism class organized by World Press Photo (WPPh) and Caucasus Media Institute (CMI) from 2004 to 2005 and finished it with Diploma of Excellence.
After that I won internship in Panos Pictures Agency, and practiced in photo editing in “The Independent” on Sundays newspaper , 2005, London, UK.

In 2006 I was nominated and passed Training for Trainers course organized by WPPh in Amsterdam. Now I am teaching photojournalism in the Caucasus Media Institute. I was chosen one of the best 10 students from all of the courses organized by World Press Photo(in 10 years). In 2006 and 2007 I had nominations for Joop Swart Masterclass.

I have been working as a photographer since 2003, my photos are published (also on cover pages) in different magazines and books.

One of my projects that i'm doing these 3 years is life(daily life) in the political enclaves of the Caucasus like Abkhazia, Ossetia, Nagorno Karabagh. 35 pictures that upload here is just selection of Karabagh story of 2009-2010. ;)

Nagorno-Karabagh, a breakaway state in the Caucasus hoping to join the list of republics that achieved recognition such as Kosovo, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
