I was born in Moscow, Russia, then the USSR, in 1984. I started working as a professional journalist in 2002, not long after I entered Moscow State University's Department of Journalism. Very soon, I realized that photography gave me a broader way to express myself not only as a journalist, but also as an artist and a human being. Although I was still working as a writer, I enrolled in the photography school of the Russian broadsheet Izvestiya in 2005 and started selling my pictures to various media.
In 2007, I left my staff position at the BBC Moscow bureau to become a freelance photojournalist. After graduating from Moscow State University in 2008 I spent half a year living in Sukhumi, Abkhazia, covering the Caucasus region as photojournalist and working on my personal project about this breakaway republic.
In 2009 I got the grant from the Rory Peck Trust (UK) to undergo a hostile environment course in the UK.
The media which have published my work include: Aftenposten (Norway), Berlingske Tidende (Denmark), Dagsavisen (Norway), FEM Business (Neutherlands), Financial Times Deutschland, Helsingin Sanomat (Finland), Kristeligt Dagblad ( Denmark), Management Scope (Neutherlands), The Observer (UK), Tank Magazine (UK), The Globe and Mail (Canada), Throw (Neutherlands), among others.
I have also worked for the news agencies, including Agence France Presse and European Pressphoto Agency.
In July 2007, my art-project "Burgundy in Details" was on the short-list of Young Photographers of Russia award and was exhibited in Nizhny Novgorod in the summer 2007
In November 2007, two colleagues and I had an exhibition called HoLaLa Cuba at Original Gallery, Moscow, Russia.
I’ve been also a part of several group exhibitions in Russia and Norway.
