2010 FALL-WINTER WORKSHOPS. APPLY NOW!

[OR]EDU, an innovative online educational initiative originated in Russia and launched by Objective Reality Foundation in 2008, is now offering its workshops internationally. In the fall of 2010 [OR]EDU opened its free online workshops in photography and multimedia to applicants worldwide.

[OR]EDU project aims at supporting contemporary narratives, and engaging both professional authors and the audience in navigating the wide range of social issues through visual storytelling.

[OR]EDU online workshops are designed to help navigate photographers and visual professionals through the rapidly changing media and art markets and focus on the need to develop and maintain a personal vision. Distinctive features of the project is its mobile, flexible format and extended timing that allows participants to produce strong personal work guided by the professional excellence of invited masters.

The forthcoming workshops starting in November 2010 feature the following topics and masters:

BEYOND THE PHOTOGRAPH workshop with award-winning photographer Donald Weber (Canada) will be dedicated to producing a new personal project that will push participants' ideas of what photo editing can be and a solid proposal which can then be used for magazines, grants, galleries or for personal use.

PICTURING ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS workshop with Joerg Colberg (USA), photographer and publisher/editor of the influential Conscientious blog, will explore this topic with participants offering their own particular focus in different
countries. The goal of the workshop is to help participants understand the steps from conceiving a project, fleshing out the idea, taking the photographs, revising the concept, to selecting the images that express the concept.

EDITORIAL PHOTOGRAPHY workshop with award-winning picture editor Sarah Harbutt (USA) and Time magazine international photo editor Patrick Witty (USA) will focus on producing new stories from scratch based on participants' ideas, guiding the proposed stories towards completion and exploring current opportunities in which to market work. The class will work together on the final edit of each participant's project.

In 2008-2010 four online workshop sessions were produced with a focus on multimedia, project work, editorial and art markets. Since the project launched, 472 photographers applied to participate in the workshops, and 150 of them were chosen as participants. The workshops were taught by 20 internationally acclaimed photographers, magazine and agency editors, curators, and multimedia producers, including Rebecca McLelland, Barbara Stauss, Lucian Perkins, Yuri Kozyrev, Andrey Polikanov and Thomas Werner.

We encourage applications from working professionals with broad backgrounds and specializations in photography and multimedia (including documentary and art photographers, photo editors, multimedia producers and journalists) as well as from students seriously studying visual storytelling from all over the world. Most importantly, we are looking for storytellers with exciting project ideas and stories to tell!

Please note that [OR]EDU has a continuous schedule which allows you to join the project at any stage. Each workshop has its own application deadline and requirements. New workshops in Multimedia will be announced soon!
