I haven't shot these students on the street intentionally. I wanted to show them at the dorm that is their temporary home and reflects their inner state in a way... Shooting them outside and in different situation could be interesting, I agree with you completely. As to me, It's a matter of approach.
Concerning the "static" character of the images, it also has a reason. While shooting, I've talked to them - so they were sitting or staying - trying to concentrate on the mood (and in some way to lead them to this mood), and thus has missed motion. Actually, before this assignment, I never talked to people I photograph - I only "spied" upon them :-) I see that it's my lack of experience to manage to combine these two activities - talking and shooting, translating something and perceiving- at one time . Thank you for showing me that. |
