OBJECTIVE REALITY
In this assignment participants were asked to photograph a portrait of today's youth from their own unique point of view, relevant to this particular moment in time and in their specific environment.

They could choose a specific cultural and/or social layer of people. The masters were extremely interested in the urban or rural environments that the chosen subjects lived in.

An advice from the masters was to look beyond the obvious themes and subjects previously 'over-photographed', such as nightlife, skateboarders (or other very familiar youth subcultures), drug addicts etc.

Participants had to search for the more subtle expressions of the state of young people in the places they live and try to show what atmosphere young people are creating around them, what sort of things they are reacting to in society and how society is reacting to them.

'I tried to get into inner world of people and to capture the world around them at the same time,' - on young people in Moscow

'For the last year I’ve been into modern city youth culture in my hometown, Novosibirsk, - particularly into what this youth loves - entertainment and everything that surrounds it. And I found this world a bit surreal and strange'

'I don’t want to idealize them but they are just ready to help and there are so many people who need it,' - a story on volunteers for social work among Moscow students

People in this project represent the tendency in the society that is way too tired from the system built on the principles of consumerism

They didn't leave their hometowns, maybe because their families couldn't pay for their education, maybe they didn't want to or maybe they just like to stay where they had been born

'Being a student and living in a dorm is somewhat a weird and shaky thing. You are not a child anymore, but you are still not an adult either'

'I decided to illustrate one of the most important willing of young people - to be independent. I photographed people, who rent an apartment and did not live with the parents'

'In these photographs I want to show the visual environment of the Turkish youth that is going to have a large impact on the EU population in 15 years from now according to the World Bank'

The new MEDIA pages at [OR]EDU feature photographs and multimedia pieces produced by the EDU project participants in the course of our online workshops, as well as set the context for the Objective Reality's educational activities.

As our new workshops season starts this fall we look forward to publish materials contributed by professional photographers that correlate to the topics assigned within the workshops
